The June meeting of the General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the DAR was held June 19 at the home of Judy Deegans with 13 members and three guests present.
The traditional end of fiscal year covered dish luncheon was served in the dining area prior to the business meeting.
Sally Ford opened the business meeting and members stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and other rituals. Kita Schmidt, local chairman of DAR Schools encouraged the group to make an effort to recognize the Blue and Gold Star mothers. Nada Smith, chairman, National Defense presented an article detailing the incredible qualifications required to become a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The membership was invited to attend member Ruth Sturgil’s photography exhibit, “Captured Moments” in the Old Stone Room, Carnegie Hall July 7 – Aug. 30. Frances Simmons reminded the group to always treat our National Flag with respect. The meeting adjourned following the reading of the Americans Creed by the membership.
