Pence Springs-Sandra Gail Stewart Brunty, 62, formerly of Boulder Hill, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 13, 1952, in Welch, she was the daughter of Edith N. Gunter Stewart of Pence Springs and the late Weldon C. “Bub” Stewart.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harvard D. “Pete” Stewart.

Mrs. Brunty was a Senior Underwriter Manager, having retired from BrickStreet Insurance Company, Charleston, WV, after many years of service. She was a 1969 graduate of Talcott High School, Talcott, and attended Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, IL, and Mountain State University in Beckley. Mrs. Brunty was a 29 year resident of Boulder Hill, IL, prior to moving back to West Virginia in preparation for her future retirement. She loved her home in Pence Springs and dearly enjoyed spending time at home with her family, especially with her beloved grandchildren, Tyler and Abigail, who were her passion.

Survivors include: her devoted husband of 45 years, Davis Brunty of Pence Springs; son, John Brunty and wife Jen of Crawfordsville, IN; two grandchildren, Tyler and Abigail Brunty of Crawfordsville, IN; her mother, Edith N. Gunter Stewart of Pence Springs; brother, Jeffrey Stewart and wife Shirley of Pence Springs; two sisters, Sheila McMillion of Pence Springs and Barbara June Depriest of Pence Springs; sister-in-law, Sharon Stewart of Pence Springs; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3, at the Pence Springs Community Church, Pence Springs, where the Rev. Roger Persinger officiated.

Burial was in the Stewart and Gunter Cross Over Trails Cemetery, Pence Springs.

Friends called Thursday afternoon, July 3, at the Pence Springs Community Church, Pence Springs.

Serving as pallbearers were: John Mize, John Wimmer, Daniel Brunty, Matthew Snyder, Charles Hill, Ryan King, Timothy Wynes and Keith Heaton.

For those considering an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, because of the loving care and treatment that she received at Select Specialty Hospital in Charleston, the family suggests that donations be made in memory of Mrs. Brunty to The Foundation for the Thomas Memorial and Saint Francis Hospitals, Inc., 4605 MacCorkle Avenue, SW, South Charleston, WV 25309.

Please make checks payable to “The Foundation” and place “Sandra Brunty” in the memo.

Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.
