Volunteers needed! Whether you’re a runner, a fan of ghouls, or just like to be involved in your local community, we need you! On Saturday, Oct. 25, the United Way of Greenbrier Valley’s popular Zombie 5K, “Run of the Living Dead” and the area’s first and only half-marathon, “Run United” will return. The events will raise funds and awareness for your local United Way of the Greenbrier Valley.
If interested in participating as a runner or zombie, online registration is available at www.TriStateRacer.com/RunUnited. Forms may also be downloaded and returned with payment to United Way, P.O. Box 572, Lewisburg, WV 24901. The 5K entry fee is $20 now through Oct. 22 or $25 day of race. Half-marathon early bird entry fee is $60 through Aug. 15; regular registration is $70 Aug. 16 through Oct. 22; price increases to $85 for on-site registration. Each preregistered participant will receive a tee shirt. Shirts may not be available for day of registrations. Top finishers will receive an award. This is a family-friendly event.
For the Zombie 5K runners, the object of the race is to finish with flags intact and as fast as possible; flags will be provided. There will be zombies all along the course, so you’ll have to keep an eye out. Once all of your flags are gone, you are considered “infected,” but this by no means diminishes your ability to finish and win the timed portion of the race.
Zombies, fast or slow, we need you! The object of the zombie chase is to capture flags. Please, make sure your costume and make up stays on you! We do not want spraying blood or body parts falling off and endangering the runners. And please, no grabbing, biting, tripping or anything else that could endanger the runners or zombies!
The Run United Half-Marathon is a 13.1-mile scenic course through Lewisburg’s Historic District and rolling hill countryside. Run United starts and ends in downtown Lewisburg, named “America’s Coolest Small Town. The course is run on paved roads. Finisher’s medals will be awarded. Top prizes for each male and female in each age group.
