Solar is on the rise and is now affordable! The public is invited to attend a Solar Seminar on Monday, June 16 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Board of Education building on Willow Road in Union. Come find out everything you would like to know about solar installations including how to make it happen and save money. Homeowners, farmers, and businesses are all eligible.
Recent reports issued by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) show that solar is playing a rapidly increasing role in the energy market. Market analysis for the first quarter of this year shows that power generated from the sun accounts for 74 percent of all new US electric capacity, installed so far in 2014.
By joining together with neighbors to form a cooperative, Monroe County homeowners, farmers and businesses can greatly reduce the cost of solar installations. Co-op participants benefit from streamlined financing programs – so that families, farms, and businesses can go solar for no upfront cost, making monthly payments comparable to what they were paying for their electric bill.
Solar saves water, too. Producing electricity from solar reduces the amount of energy being generated by oil, coal, gas or nuclear, all of which require the use and contamination of great quantities of water.
Solar creates jobs, as well. The report released by the SEIA also shows that solar energy is creating thousands of new jobs nationwide and pumping nearly $15 billion a year into the US economy.
Whether or not you live in Monroe County, you can help to contribute to diversify West Virginia’s energy portfolio by being a model for renewable energy… while preserving our peaceful, rural way of life.
