The Greenbrier Valley Farmers Market invites the public to a series of free educational talks held at 10 a.m. every Saturday at the Pavillion in the grass on the corner of Rt. 219 and Arbuckle Lane in downtown Lewisburg. The short, 15- to 30-minute sessions will showcase a different noteworthy topic each week, with subjects relevant to our local community or appealing to those who enjoy growing, cooking, or eating, or learning from those who do! Join us for one or many; attend ten to earn a certificate from the Farmers Market Academy!

Coming up soon: May 10 – Spring Greens and Salads – gathering, planting, and cooking; May 17 – It’s the Real Dirt – healthy soil and how to tell.

Future topics include: Keeping a Country Chick Happy – how to care for backyard flocks; Color It Green – organic and chemical fertilizer choices; Deer to Me But Not my Garden! – what to do about these garden raiders; GMOs: The Simple Truth; How Sweet it is – health benefits of local honey; Can I Can? – how to can, safely.

Also, we want your recipes! What is your favorite way to prepare the various goodies you buy from the market? Whether veggies, fruits, meats, eggs, honey, or any of our other goodies, from a flash in the pan to an elaborate cooking regime. Drop them off at the Recipe Mailbox this season to be part of the GVFM 2014 recipe collection.
