White Sulphur Springs-Robert Henry “Bobby” Giles, Jr., 74, passed away Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2014, at the White Sulphur Springs Family Care Center.
Born Apr. 22, 1939, in Lvnchburg, VA, he was a son of the late Mary Virginia Martin and Robert Henry Giles, Sr.
Bobby attended school in White Sulphur Springs and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the White Sulphur Springs Lions Club. A faithful sports fan of White Sulphur High School and later Greenbrier East High School, he attended all sporting events for years. In his early adult life, he helped to run movies at the Plaza Theater and later worked at the WV State Fair. A daily visit to Bone’s Diner and the Stop-In, as well as his few weeks at the WSS Family Care Center, brought him a host of friends. He loved parades, fireworks, and went daily to watch trains passing through town. He also collected teddy bears. Being disabled the last 14 years, Bobby was able to remain at home with the services and excellent care of many caring people. His neighbor, Jacqueline Loving, would like to thank them and especially Darlene Cutlip, her husband Curtis and Alice Waid.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hubert Harvey and Hattie Graves Sperry Martin; and his only sister, Mary Jane Giles Leith, who died in 1994.
Visitation was on Wednesday evening, Apr. 23 at the Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs.
A graveside service was conducted Thursday, Apr. 24 at Hillcrest Community Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
