West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner released new business registration totals for the year earlier this week. Leading in the state for growth were Summers, Taylor, and Clay County; but Greenbrier County had its fair share of new business filings this year, as well.
Greenbrier County had 1,739 registered businesses on July 1, 2019, and that number increased to 1,921 by June 30, 2020. With 216 new businesses, that is 10.47 percent growth overall. The city distribution of these filings shows Lewisburg with most growth, followed closely by White Sulphur Springs, then Ronceverte.
Lewisburg gained 67 new businesses, White Sulphur Springs gained 41, Ronceverte gained 21, and the rest are divided amongst Rainelle, Renick, Rupert, Crawley, Frankford, Alderson, Caldwell, Maxwelton, and others.
“Even during a pandemic, opportunities for business growth exist,” Warner said. “The Secretary of State’s Office is making sure the registration process is easy and quick for every new business.”
West Virginia saw an 8.79 percent growth in business registrations in the previous 12-month period. Summers County led the increase with 17.51 percent growth. To review county-by-county growth, visit our Business Statistics Database.
