On Thursday, June 18, Deputy Z.H. Hudnall of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of individuals passing and attempting to pass counterfeit United States currency of $50 denominations at local businesses in Greenbrier County.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. Deputy Hudnall initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description on the I-64 west bound entrance ramp in Lewisburg.
Members of the Lewisburg Police Department, as well as members of the Sheriff’s Office, responded to assist.
The subsequent investigation and execution of search warrants resulted in three male subjects and two females from the state of South Carolina being taken into custody.
The United States Secret Service was contacted and agents from the Charleston office responded to Lewisburg.
The investigation is ongoing and the case will be referred to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia for prosecution consideration.
Deputy Hudnall was assisted by members of the Lewisburg Police Department, as well as members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office.
