Alderson-Gary Don Farren, 72, also known as “Cowboy,” passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Peyton Hospice House, Lewisburg.
Born Nov. 9, 1947, in Alderson, he was the son of Anna Virginia Diem Farren and the late Thomas Farren.
Gary was a member of the Ronceverte Baptist Church, founding member of the Muddy Creek Mountain Ruritan Club and was a member of the Mountview UMC until their closure. He retired from Reynolds Oil, worked for Frazier Limestone, ACME Limestone, Sears and Capital Finance. Gary enjoyed camping, working in his garden and yard and riding his tractor.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Bonnie Sue Dixon Farren; daughters, Susan Byers (Pat Davis) of White Sulphur Springs, and Sarah Browning (Joey) of Alderson; brother, Bill Farren (Ada) of Alderson; grandchildren, Lane Hayes (Elaine Fox), Garrett Byers, Austin Byers (Albany Brown), Landon and Logan Hayes; step-grandchildren, Chase Browning (Sammy Hockenberry) and Matthew Browning; special “grandchildren” Jonathan Accord, Justin Davis and Malena Fox.
Due to the regulations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and out of love and respect for extended family and friends, a memorial service will be held later.
