Carnegie Hall Creative Youth Art Exhibit winners announced

Carnegie Hall’s 27th annual Creative Youth Art Exhibit awards ceremony took place on March 5 as friends and family filled the Hamilton Auditorium to celebrate the accomplishments of Greenbrier Valley’s young artists. A reception with light refreshments provided by The Greenbrier followed the ceremony.

Creative Youth is a juried art show each spring that features the talent and imagination of Greenbrier County students in grade 4-12. Children from public, private, and home schools submit their work for this juried art exhibit.

This year’s participating schools and teachers: Alderson Elementary-April Vincent; Crichton Elementary – David Poticher; Eastern Greenbrier Middle – Mark Cline and Mary Stankunas; Frankford Elementary – Stephanie Holley; Greenbrier Academy for Girls – Anne Hunter; Greenbrier East High – Anne Bordas and Stephanie Tilley; Greenbrier West High – Marla Bell; Lewisburg Elementary – Jody Wilber; Rainelle Elementary – David Poticher; Ronceverte Elementary – April Vincent; Rupert Elementary – Melissa Clovis; Smoot Elementary – Melissa Clovis; Western Greenbrier Middle – Emily Sullivan; and White Sulphur Springs Elementary – Stephanie Holley.

“Taking Flight” by Autumn Miller

During the awards ceremony, Carnegie Hall’s Artistic Director, Allan Sizemore, President, Sara Crickenberger, Education Director, Leah Trent, Board of Director’s Vice Chair, Liz Wickline, and Education Assistant, Harmony Flora, announced the winners of the various art categories and divisions. Local artists Molly Messimer, Barbara Walker, and Misty Walkup served as judges.

The Best In Show Award went to SallieWhitkamper, a Greenbrier East High School 12th-grader, with her drawing “Troubling of Goldfish.” The inaugural Carnegie Hall’s Choice Award was given to Ronceverte Elementary 5th-grader, Autumn Miller, for her mixed-media “Taking Flight.”

The Elementary School Division (Grade 4-5) ribbonwinners: Drawing – Ethan Dowdy (winner), Wyatt Berger (runner up), Madilyn Sweet (third place), and Walker Gwinn (honorable mention); Mixed Media – Jayden Bosserman (winner), Diana Porter (runner up), Elijah Smailes (third place), Willow Patterson (honorable mention); Painting – Conley Morgan (winner), Kaylee Wingrove (runner up), Lacey Cole (third place); and Lillian Long (honorable mention). Photography – Kadence Nolan (winner), and Irelyn Sams (runner up); Printmaking – Noah Kincaid (winner), Kya Miller (runner up), and Sydney Norman (third place).

The Middle School Division (Grade 6-8) ribbonwinners: Drawing – Sofia Kelso (winner), Taylor Tomlinson (runner up), and Mea Tatgenhorst (third place);Mixed Media -Avery O’Neal (winner), Sarah Mills (runner up), and Valerie Rice (third place). Painting –Landon Hammons (winner), Selena Elizalde (runner up), Meagan Griffith (third place), and Peyton Smith (honorable mention).

The High School Division (Grade 9-12) ribbon winners: Drawing – Sallie Whitkamper (winner), Katherine Barfield (runner up), Tania Redden (third place), and Riley Bowyer (honorable mention); Mixed Media – Kenia O’Neal (winner), Raelynn Osborne (runner up), and Kayley Thompson (third place); Painting – Lily Stevens (winner), Valentina Tall (runner up), and Hailey Vaughan (third place); Photography – Chrissy Lilly (winner), and Dawson Poticher (runner up).
