The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 10, in the church fellowship hall. President Carole Spencer presided and Marsha Merritt led in prayer.
Barb Seldomridge presented the missionary education report, “Exulting Christ Over Indonesia & Beyond,” Tommy and Poppi Smith are missionaries to Indonesia and have been since 1983. Tommy was in Bible college in the states and had to raise $11,000 to go there. While he was there, he met his wife. They have a five-pronged ministry to reach people. The first is evangelism by bringing people to Christ. The second is leadership development by hosting numerous conferences to train leaders. The third is benevolence that includes the heart, head and stomach. They have Poppi’s Kitchen that feeds underprivileged children. They host a Christmas party for over 2000 children. They have built six churches in small villages. The fourth is ministerial enrichment by providing resources for pastors and workers. The fifth is kingdom partnership by partnering with others to fulfill the Great Commission.
Jamie Harvey gave the Treasurer’s Report and Pauline Perkins read last month’s Minutes. The group reported sending 132 cards, making 11 visits, and making 40 phone calls. The group will be serving the Maxwelton Ruritans on Mar. 26. The church will be having an Easter egg hunt on Saturday Apr. 11, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Membership dues are due next meeting. The Yard and Bake Sale will be on May 2 and a church donation dinner will be held May 31 after church.
The nominating committee consisted of Marty Burns, Donna Scott, Barb Seldomridge and Carole Spencer. Elections were held, and officers elected for the coming year were Carole Spencer, president; Joan Vance, vice president; Pauline Perkins, secretary; Jamie Harvey, treasurer; Marty Burns, historian; Cindy Fleshman, literature reporter; Dyan Hefner, spiritual life; Kim Brookman and Barb Seldomridge, co-chairs of missionary education; Barb Seldomridge, correspondence; Pauline Perkins and Patty Owens, gift buyers; and the stewardship, finance, friendship and enlistment committees were all ratified.
Dyan Hefner brought us the devotion, “Brewing Good Relationships,” with scripture reference Proverbs 25:11. Many people brew tea by using various flavors of tea. They also steep tea leaves. This can be a way of showing love to others along with speaking to others, smiling, calling people by name, being a friend and helping, everything can be a pleasure, liking everyone, praise, being considerate of feelings, being thoughtful, and being alert for service because what counts is what we do for others.
The next meeting will be Apr. 14. Angie Scott dismissed in prayer and Joan Vance won the door prize.
Attending were: Alice Coff, Angie Scott, August Hefner, Barb Seldomridge, Carole Spencer, Cindy Fleshman, Carol Spencer, Donna Scott, Dyan Hefner, Evon Persinger, Jamie Harvey, Joan Vance, Marsha Merritt, Marty Burns, Patty Owens, Pauline Perkins, and Shirley Loudermilk.
