At a small press conference held on Tuesday, Senator Stephen Baldwin and Greater Greenbrier Long-Term Recovery Committee Director Kayla McCoy asked the public for volunteers to form a Greater Greenbrier County COVID-19 Task Force. They aim to recruit roughly 50 people to help.
As of now, no volunteers are currently needed, according to Baldwin, “But we think we are going to be in a position very soon where we will need volunteers.” The goal is to be prepared to help distribute food to “vulnerable populations,” including school-aged children and the elderly.
McCoy said they will need assistance assembling bagged lunches and deliver them to areas around Greenbrier County. “This is important right now because as with any public crisis these situations can change daily, sometimes hourly,” said McCoy, “so it is of the utmost importance that we’re prepared to care for our vulnerable population in upcoming weeks.”
The requirements to be a volunteer are as follows:
-Must be between the ages of 18 and 60 (or 15-17 with parental consent);
-Must be asymptomatic, and have not visited a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days;
-Must be willing to go through a background check and complete required paperwork.
