The 10th Annual Venison Cooking Contest, Bingo, and Auction was a huge success this year with a record breaking total of $7,000 raised for youth going to Greenbrier County 4-H Camp. Woody Hanna, Greenbrier County Commissioner, Steven Halliday, Main Dining room Chef at The Greenbrier, and Todd Ramboldt, Bank of Monroe, graciously volunteered their time to judge the venison entries this year.
Zach Hamrick, a member of the Greenbrier County Sharp Shooters 4-H Club, took first place in the youth division of the venison cook off with his “Burri-does.” Second place was earned by Alex Crookshanks, a member of the Smoot Hilltop Smokies 4-H Club followed by Terry Tyler in third place. The Adult division was led by Erin Lore with her “Tenderloin Steak and Homemade Bread.” Second Look Thrift Shop snagged second place and third place was awarded to Haley Null. Prizes for the winners of the Venison Cooking Contest were sponsored by Second Creek Campground, Pyramid Counseling, Spikes N’ Splinters Construction, Dr. Joseph Vaughan and Terri Ramboldt.
Vicky Neel and her family in conjunction with Mark Cunnigham and the Fairlea Fire Department coordinated the first Bingo Fundraiser with this event which brought in over 100 participants. All proceeds from the event will help provide Greenbrier County youth with the opportunity to attend an affordable, educational, safe, and fun camp this summer.
