Fairlea-Richard Eugene Bowyer, 88, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at the Peyton Hospice House.
Born May 27, 1931, in Wolf Creek, he was the son of the late Ernest Eugene and Julia Caroline Ratliff Bowyer.
Mr. Bowyer was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Richard was a self-employed contractor and was a farmer. He received the Distinguished West Virginian Award from Governor Arch Moore after his work on completing Interstate 64.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Gracie Mae White Bowyer; son, Ernest Edward Bowyer; brothers, Hoover, Denny, Bill and James Bowyer; and sisters, Helen Wilson, Ruth Tuzzelonia, Nancy Fabino, Mabel Tolley, Adell Qualls, Mary Brooks and Margaret Roach.
Survivors include son, Richard Eugene “Dickie” Bowyer, Jr. (Mary) of Riverside; daughters, Sharon Marie Biter (James) of Grand Prairie, TX and Juanita “Fred” Bowyer of Fairlea; brother, George Bowyer (Lilla) of Austin, TX; and sister, Eva Jean Reed (Jimmy) of Peterstown; grandchildren, Richard Eugene Bowyer III (Jamie), Lorena Elizabeth Bowyer and Adam Alexander Bowyer; great-grandchildren, Richard Eugene Bowyer IV and Liam Harper Bowyer; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Morgan Funeral Home, Chapel, Lewisburg, where Pastor Hat Defibaugh officiated. Burial was in Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Visitation was Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, at the funeral home.
