The Spartan Marching Band of Greenbrier East High School earned the overall Grand Champion award last Saturday during Sissonville Invitational of the Appalachian Drum Corp competition.
In addition to the Grand Champion trophy, the band also earned first place in color guard, music performance, visual performance, percussion, and second place in drum major competition, with St. Albans High School winning first in that area of competition.
This Saturday, Oct. 19, the Spartan Band will be participating in the West Virginia Marching Band Invitational at the University of Charleston Stadium (formerly Laidley Field). The competition is sponsored by the West Virginia State Department of Culture and History.
In addition to the regular competition, the Spartan Band will participate in the Drumline Battle in Charleston on Saturday.
The Spartan Band competition season will close on Oct. 26 at Winfield High School for a second Appalachian Drum Corp competition.
The final field performance in Spartan Stadium will be Nov. 1 during the pre-game and halftime of the Greenbrier East-Princeton Senior night football game.
