In the spirit of volunteerism, the Shepherd’s Center of the Greenbrier Valley Board of Trustees announces the recipient of the 12th annual Community Service Award for 2014, Tom Bulla of Lewisburg.

He is being honored this year in recognition of the many years of volunteering he personally served as well as encouraging his peers to volunteer in community service in their respective communities.

Shepherd’s Center philosophy is grounded in the three tenets of life-long learning, spiritual growth and service to others. Not only has Tom demonstrated these qualities during his life, he also served on the first Board of Trustees for the Shepherd’s Center and was instrumental in establishing the annual Community Service Award.

Bulla’s response to being awarded was this: “I am so surprised by this award. I feel there are so many people in this community who do so much, and are perhaps so much more deserving. I have always enjoyed being involved in the community; I think we all need to pay back because of the many things that have influenced our own lives. I am just thankful I could give back in some small way to the communities I have tried to serve over the years.’”

The Community ServiceAward luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 25, 12 noon at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine Roland P. Sharp Alumni Center. Award winning filmmaker B.J. Gunmundsson will present a biographical video of Tom Bulla during festivities which will highlight some of Tom Bulla’s life story and achievements.

To kick off this celebration, a reception was held Jan. 29 at the Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center in downtown Lewisburg. It was an opportunity for the community to meet the CSA recipient and to consider their annual contribution to the Shepherd’s Center during the period prior to the CSA luncheon.

Tickets for the Mar. 25 event are on sale now. For additional information, call the Shepherd’s Center of the Greenbrier Valley office at 304-645-4196.
