Brandon Cruz, a member of Boy Scout Troop 70 and a resident of Lewisburg, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that the Boy Scouts offers.
Brandon Cruz, 18, of Greenbrier East High School, achieved the 21 merit badges required to receive the Eagle Scout award. For his final project, he built a flower bed made out of river rock to decorate the main entrance of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in White Sulphur Springs.
“I would like to thank all my mentors and leaders during my years with Troop 70, especially Mr. Cliff Baker. I couldn’t have done all my accomplishments if it wasn’t for the help and support of my parents, Terry and Isela Casey. They taught me so much about life, how to be respectful to my peers, and being a role model to others.”
A ceremony honoring Brandon will take place on June 1 at 4 p.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, White Sulphur Springs. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
After Brandon’s high school graduation on May 31, he plans to pursue a nursing degree at New River Community and Technical College in Lewisburg. During the month of July, he will travel to the Netherlands with Troop 70 to explore Amsterdam and will attend the International Boy Scout Jamboree.
Outside Brandon’s BSA activities, he sings with the Greenbrier East Choir, is an instrumentalist for the school band “Second Block Rock.” He has finished his senior year with the Greenbrier East Track Team, and currently works as a lifeguard at the Greenbrier Resort.
