The citizens of Lewisburg will go the polls on Jan. 25, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers to renew or deny the “excess levy” for a five-year term. This levy is a renewal of the existing levy and is one of the City’s most important sources of income. The levy represents approximately $416,984 per year for five years through June 2021, of the City’s annual General Fund budget. The general fund finances the City’s streets, police, fire and parks departments. The levy provides a fund for capital improvements, operation and maintenance of the Municipal Fire Department, and supports services such as police patrols, community policing projects, fire equipment, snow removal, park and library maintenance, traffic and street sign maintenance and street maintenance. Programs such as street sweeping and matching funds for grant opportunities depend on this tax.

The levy enables the City to cooperate with civic organizations on special events like TOOT, bike races, parades, flower boxes, hanging baskets, banner displays, hosting of athletic events and cemetery maintenance. Failure of the levy would mean the loss of important services that contribute to the reputation of Lewisburg as a special place.

The City of Lewisburg strongly encourages Lewisburg voters to vote in favor of continuing the excess levy on Jan. 25.
