This summer, high school students will have an opportunity to learn about the human body when the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) presents “Just Say KNOW to Anatomy!”
The weeklong day camp will take place 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from June 24-28 on the WVSOM campus. The camp is open to ninth- through 12th-graders as well as recent high school graduates, and there is no cost to attend.
“Just Say KNOW to Anatomy!” will introduce students to the human organ systems and examine some of the diseases that commonly affect them. The information will be taught through enjoyable interactive activities, preceded by brief lectures.
“We’ll learn not just what structures make up the body, but how their structure is related to their function, which is one of the osteopathic tenets,” said the event’s organizer, Courtney Eleazer, Ph.D. “We’ll do this through hands-on activities, because we don’t want students to feel like they’re in school. We want them to have fun.”
The camp also will teach students about careers in the health care industry.
To register, students are asked to submit an essay describing themselves and explaining why they’re interested in participating, along with a recommendation from a teacher. Submissions must be emailed to Courtney Eleazer (celeazer@osteo.wvsom.edu) by May 15.
WVSOM’s previous camps in the series include “Just Say KNOW to Drugs!” and “Just Say KNOW to Infectious Diseases!”
