(Richard Termine / Met Opera)
Greer Grimsley as Wotan in Wagner’s Die Walküre

Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), in partnership with the Met: Live in HD, presents Wagner’s Die Walküre on Saturday, Mar. 30, at 12 noon.

The live simulcast will run approximately four hours and 55 minutes with two intermissions. Dr. James Caplinger, from the University of Charleston, will give a complimentary lecture beginning at 11:15 a.m.

This epic second opera in Wagner’s Ring Cycle stars Christine Goerke as the willful maiden warrior Brünnhilde, alongside Greer Grimsley as her father, Wotan, leader of the Gods. The production also stars Jamie Barton as Wotan’s wife Fricka and will be conducted by Philippe Jordan.

Wagner’s Ring Cycle is an epic saga set during the time of mortal men alongside dwarves, giants and gods. The cycle begins with Das Rheingold, which takes place in both the world of Gods and the world of men, but Die Walküre stands alone, being set only in the world of men. It is the tale of struggle between mystical and human forces, as the balance of power slowly tilts to the side of men.

Tickets are $18 for general adult admission, $14 for seniors (60+) and $10 for children/students. For more information, call the GVT Box Office at 304-645-3838 or visit www.gvtheatre.org. This program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Arts, Culture & History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
