Now that the West Virginia State Wrestling Championships are over, we must look in to the rearview mirror to appreciate the success we had throughout the season.

I am a firm believer in the saying, “You cannot have great memories without great moments.” If that statement is true, then this team has provided me with great memories for life! Here are just a few of the highlights that need to be recognized; Region 3 Dual Meet Team Champions! The Greenbrier Duals Champions! ‘Coal Country Challenge’ Champions! (We beat Beckley.) Greenbrier County Champions! (We beat the ‘A’ State Wrestling Champions Greenbrier West.) Congratulations to Coach Tincher and his team. That is big time! I could go on and on about how lucky I am to coach these wrestlers. I am truly blessed. There are many more statistics and achievements that will be highlighted at our Banquet and published in a later Miluk’s Mat-ters.

Trivia: Next year we will be returning the most state qualifiers and state place winners in school history. Can you guess how many?

Upcoming events and highlights: The NCAA Wrestling Championship finals are next Saturday, Mar. 23. (Leslie Campbell’s birthday). We will host party to watch them together. I will shoot out information on social media. Our annual banquet will be Tuesday, Apr. 2. All are welcome and it usually is a time for fun, family and friends.

EGMS update: Coach Joe Heath and Rodney Fisher are still giving everyone an opportunity to get better. They have ‘open mats’ on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Come and learn from two of the best in our county. Hard work = success!

Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club: WOW! The youth wrestling club had fun! Close to 10 wrestlers placed at the Jr. State Championships in Parkersburg this past weekend. Special Congrats to James and Will Godby who were crowned CHAMPIONS! That’s how you build a great wrestling culture. Great job to all the coaches.

Miluk humor: I was in pain the other day during my physical therapy. My wife said that there is no way that I should be in that much pain… I think she was pulling my leg. Ha!

Trivia answer: The Greenbrier East Wrestling team will return 10 State Qualifiers. Steven Martinez (Regional Champion), Waymon Browning (3X Qualifier), Landen Hoover (State Place-Winner), Zach Mullins (State Place-Winner), Brad Blevins (Ranked Top 10), Alex Zimmerman (Ranked top 8), Colby Piner (Regional Champion), Owen Quinn (Ranked top 10), Nick Thomas (Ranked Top 8) and Branson Sharp (State Qualifier) will help us make great things happen!
