The Kilcollins: Hand in Hand with United Way

The Kilcollin family

In what is a first for the United Way of Greenbrier Valley, two generations are serving as chairs of the Annual Campaign.

The Kilcollin family – Dr. Mark Kilcollin and his wife Debbie, and their daughters Drs. Katie Kilcollin and Abby Kilcollin – are enthusiastic supporters of the United Way, both individually and through their dental practice in Monroe and Greenbrier Counties.

“Chairing the United Way campaign is an honor for us,” says Debbie, a longtime member of the agency’s board of directors. “The work United Way does day in and day out for the community is vital for many people.”

Charleston native Mark, a graduate of Charleston Catholic High School, the University of North Carolina and the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, moved to Monroe County in 1974 and established his practice in Union. A strong believer in giving back to the community, Mark has supported local causes and organizations with time, talent and his checkbook for four decades.

Debbie, who grew up on a Monroe County dairy farm, is a graduate of Union High School, Concord University and Virginia Tech. She is a retired educator and child nutrition director from Greenbrier County Schools. Throughout her 35-year career she has served on several local nonprofit boards and is currently on the board of Greenbrier Valley Theatre, a United Way partner agency.

Katie, who graduated from Greenbrier East High School, Winthrop University and the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, bought her father’s dental practice several years ago. She has the unusual distinction of employing both her semi-retired father and her younger sister, Abby.

Abby, a graduate of James Monroe High School, West Virginia University and the WVU School of Dentistry, is the newest Kilcollin to help keep alive what has been a three-generation family tradition of dentistry. She works in both the Union and Lewisburg offices.

“Mom and Dad believe that if you give generously it comes back to you,” Katie observes. “Abby and I want that to always be a part of our own lives and Kilcollin Dentistry. The United Way represents so many of the things we believe in. We’re really pleased to chair this year’s campaign.”

“Whether it’s supporting a junior livestock event, band, athletic or scholarship cause, or serving on boards and committees, our family has been part of the effort to help, serve, and support our local communities,” says the Kilcollins.

Join Mark, Debbie, Katie, and Abby as they work with United Way staff, board, and fellow supporters to raise $325,000 for the United Way to address the health, education, and basic needs of friends and neighbors in Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas Counties.
