Grand Affair supports WVSOM student scholarships

Guests are invited to explore the “Enchanted Forest” during the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine’s (WVSOM) annual Grand Affair.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 3, in the Colonial Ballroom at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs.

Community members and area businesses can enjoy the formal evening that includes a strolling dinner, silent auction and dancing. The Grand Affair, hosted by the WVSOM Student Government Association, directly supports student scholarship and is one of the largest fundraising events during the academic year. Scholarship funds are given to students who exemplify academic leadership and community involvement and act as an ideal representative of the osteopathic medical profession.

Chris Gauthier, Class of 2021, has financially benefited from two awards at WVSOM, one of which is determined by peers as someone who has mentored fellow students, shared their own resources to facilitate the learning of others, has participated in clubs or organized events and has brought students together in new and creative ways.

“As a recipient of the Roland P. Sharp President’s Award and the SGA Leadership Scholarship, I am extremely humbled and thankful to receive these honors,” the second-year student said. “I’ve enjoyed great satisfaction seeing projects I’ve been part of come to fruition and these scholarships have allowed me to focus more clearly on what I am here to do.”

While the primary purpose of the Grand Affair is to raise money for student scholarships, it is also an opportunity to build relationships among students, staff, alumni, community and business leaders. Tickets will be available to the public for $150 until Wednesday, Oct. 31. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. To purchase tickets, call Marietta Chaney at 304-647-6400.
