Mayor John Manchester (far left) was presented with the Distinguished Mountaineer award in Morgantown.Lewisburg Mayor John Manchester has been named a Distinguished Mountaineer by West Virginia Governor Jim Justice. The award was presented to him by West Virginia Municipal League Executive Director Lisa Dooley at the league’s annual conference held in Morgantown.
Manchester received the award because of his efforts with leading Lewisburg forward as its Mayor for the last 15 years. Noteworthy accomplishments for Lewisburg during his tenure include being named Coolest Small Town in America in 2011, America’s Favorite (and happiest) Mountain Town, and one of the National Trust’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations.
In receiving this award Manchester noted, “It has been my honor to serve the people of Lewisburg. It has been a special privilege to be able to work with the wonderful people I am surrounded by – city council members, members of our boards and commissions, and the numerous volunteers who make this community special.”
