“The Better To See You With …” by Misty Walkup is one of the pieces showcased in Carnegie Hall’s 29th Juried Art Exhibit.

Carnegie Hall’s September/October Art Exhibits are set to open Friday, Sept. 7, with a reception for each show at 5 p.m.

Carnegie Hall features three galleries, which display the works of regional artists for two-month shows. This month’s exhibits feature works by Cathy Johans and Nima ShahabShahmir, as well as Carnegie Hall’s 29th Annual Juried Exhibit.

The Old Stone Room Gallery features Carnegie Hall’s 29th Juried Exhibit “Alternative Views.” This collection of paintings was selected by a jury of artists based on originality, technical quality, and thematic depth. The art has not previously been shown at Carnegie Hall.

“Reflections of Water” by Cathy Johans is to be featured in The Lobby Gallery. Johans is an award-winning, self-taught artist originally from Southern California. She has lived in the Greenbrier Valley for more than 30 years where she paints using pastels. She credits much of her detailed drawing ability to careful study of the works of other accomplished artists and the world around her.

The Board Room Gallery presents art by Nima ShahabShahmir. Nima sees photography as a gate or a doorway to millions of possibilities. Capturing a moment in time and admiring the scene has taught him to look around constantly and find that perfect angle with all the beauty it holds. However, this artist’s journey does not simply end here. He believes that every art related field is an ever-expanding universe of its own. The inspiration of using a single picture to create an imaginary idea has lead Nima to explore and create digital media collages, manipulating scenery images using software for creation of something unreal which did not exist before.

Carnegie Hall September/October exhibits are on display Sept. 7 through Oct. 27. They are free and open to the public and are open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, please visit carnegiehallwv.org, call 304-645-7917, or stop by the Hall at 611 Church Street, Lewisburg.

Programs in the Carnegie Hall 2018 season are presented with financial assistance through a grant from the WV Department of Arts, Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the WV Commission on the Arts.
