Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), the state professional theatre of West Virginia, is proud to present the country-western hit Honky Tonk Laundry.
This boot-scootin’ bash runs Aug. 23-25 at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 5-8 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m. and a Pay-What-You-Can Preview Performance Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Written by the man who brought you The Marvelous Wonderettes, this country-western celebration brings together two women determined to have a good time. They’ll keep you entertained with great hits like “Stand By Your Man,” “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’,” “Independence Day,” and “Wide Open Spaces,” all while keeping you clean and fresh.
Helping to tell the stories that classic country hits are known for is a live band made up of a few of Lewisburg’s most talented musicians. Two of the musicians who have participated in mainstage shows before are Billy Ayres and Jay Frye.
Ayres, who will be playing the drums, began performing with GVT at the tender age of 18. He took some time off after that, but he returned a few years ago to be a part of some of GVT’s most popular productions. His greatest hits include Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar and Beehive! Though he’s not a huge country music fan, there’s no doubt he has great respect for the art.

“I appreciate the song-writing and especially the craftsmanship of the musicians in this genre,” the drummer said.
Alongside the drummer is bass player, Jay Frye. This seasoned performer has no particular favorite genre of music and works with a few different bands in the Greenbrier Area, including WVJO, Greenbrier River Brass and Treble and Bass. Some of the shows that really highlight his abilities are Greenbrier Ghost, Chicago and Pippin.
With opening night right around the corner, both men agree that Music Director Kermit Medsker has put together an unparalleled group of extraordinary musicians. The audience will enjoy the great music selections in store.
The program is presented with financial assistance from the WV Division of Arts, Culture & History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the WV Commission on the Arts.
