Rev. Dean Veltman, “The Story Tellin’ Man,” will welcome friends at Mackey Park in Maxwelton on Sunday, June 24.

Dean Veltman, former navy chaplain and former pastor of churches in Renick, Frankford, Auto, and Hinton, will return to the area for a visit on Sunday, June 24.

A covered dish meal is being planned for that Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Charlie Mackey Park in Maxwelton, across from the Clifton Presbyterian Church.

He is hoping to see as many of his old friends as possible. If you were associated with him and/or a member of one his youth groups, please come, bring some food, and enjoy one of his stories. Also, if you have old pictures or play props, bring those, along with cards or notes.

Rev. Veltman was known for his love of the youth in the community; and he and his wife, Mary, planned many youth trips to his farm on Zion Mountain as well as extreme “Bleep” bus trips. (Bleep is the name of the bus the kids painted and named from a musical they did). The old bus took them to Virginia Beach, Washington, DC, and even Disney World.

He hopes to see you at the park on June 24.  For more information, contact Marietta Lyall or Steve Clendenen at 304-645-1359 (leave a message).
