Greenbrier River Optimistic Ukulele Players

On Saturday, May 12, artists at Lee Street Studios in Lewisburg will open their doors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Second Saturday Open Studios. Lee Street Studios occupies the former Lewisburg Elementary School building at 232 Lee Street.

The public is invited to come and visit with the artists on Second Saturdays and watch them at work. A variety of original artwork is on display in the hallways and most studios will be open.

A number of special Second Saturday events are scheduled for May 12.

Bob DuCharme, leader of the Greenbrier River Optimistic Ukulele Players (G.R.O.U.P.)

Bob DuCharme’s inimitable ukulele class will be providing informal musical entertainment in the front hall at Lee Street, starting about 1:30 p.m. Known as the Greenbrier River Optimistic Ukulele Players (GROUP), they have been meeting each Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carnegie Hall. The class began 3 years ago and numbers about 20 people. They have fun, play from the heart, and give a great show, so please come and join in.

This month Lee Street Studios welcomes the West Virginia Woodturners Association, who will be occupying Studio 18. The first of a series of woodturning classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in Studio 18, taught by Cliff Baker, an experienced woodturner and charter member of the WV Woodturners Association. For more information on woodturning classes, call 304-646-8147.

On May 12 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., plan to watch these artists at work:

In Studio 10 at 1 p.m., ceramic artist Sean O’Connell will demonstrate making a Japanese style folded clay bottle/vase.

In Studio 18, members of the WV Woodturners Association will be doing woodturning demonstrations during the afternoon.
