On Oct. 8, local residents from the Renick area: Alston and Sallie Blankenship, Lloyd and Ruby Burns and Paul, Jr. and Matthew Flippin drove to Manning Knob, site of Nancy Hart’s grave, to replace the rail fence which was in disrepair. All materials and labor were donated by these individuals. It has been approximately 100 years since the death of Nancy Hart. She was a member of the Moccasin Rangers who were Confederate sympathizers. Nancy acted as a spy for the Confederate army, was captured by Union troops and imprisoned at Summersville. She killed a guard and escaped. After the Civil War she married Joshua Douglas and they resided mostly in the Northern Greenbrier County area. Several local residents have family ties to Nancy Hart Douglas and Joshua Douglas. Joshua died in 1907 and is buried in Richwood Cemetery.
