Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), the State Professional Theatre of West Virginia, proudly presents An Enemy of the People. Henrik Ibsen’s famous drama runs Apr. 27-May 10 at 7:30 p.m. with a Pay-What-You-Can Preview Performance on Apr. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on May 5 at 2:30 p.m.

When Dr. Stockmann discovers that the water source that supports an entire town is contaminated, he must do what he thinks is right. He is not prepared for the backlash as friends and neighbors rebel when they find their livelihoods are in danger.

GVT has a long history of fostering the arts through its successful intern program. It’s always exciting when a former intern returns as a professional to grace the stage. Patrick Taylor is one such intern, who is glad to once again be performing in Lewisburg.

“I’ve always had a wonderful experience at GVT and Lewisburg is such a lovely town. GVT gave me my professional theatre start and for that I almost feel like a part of their family,” the former intern said.

Taylor, who holds an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, interned at GVT the summer of 2013. During that time he was seen in The Greenbrier Martyr and The Greenbrier Ghost, and was welcomed back the next season to perform in Is He Dead?

The young actor will be portraying Mr. Billing in the upcoming production of An Enemy of the People. He has been in love with theatre since the fourth grade, but has faced his own set of roadblocks on his path to acting. As an actor with Tourette Syndrome, Taylor had to overcome his own doubts in order to follow his dreams.

“I’ve always had this sense of having to ‘prove myself’ to fellow actors, directors and technicians which allows for a lot of negative thoughts to flow through my head,” Taylor said. “At this point in my career I have fully embraced it. In fact, I’ve started marketing myself as an actor with Tourette Syndrome.”

Through his perseverance and skill, this talented actor has since had the opportunity to fill many great roles such as Mr. Renfield in The Passion of Dracula and an autistic patient named Joe in Pretty Theft. He is now excited to fill a more dramatic and realistic role in GVT’s production of An Enemy of the People.

This program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture & History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
