The Louisburg College (NC) Hurricanes are making their third straight trip to the NJCAA Division II national basketball tournament beginning Mar. 20, in Danville, IL.
Under the direction of Head Coach Neil Dixon (former Greenbrier East coach), Louisburg won their conference title outright with an 18-2 record (25-4 overall). This automatically earned them a spot in the national 16-team tournament.
Entering their conference tournament as the #1 seed, Louisburg defeated the #8, #4 and #3 seeds to win the championship trophy.
Third-year Coach Dixon (career record 86-16) led his 2015-16 team to a second-round overtime loss to the eventual national champion. The 2016-17 team advanced to the championship game, further than any men’s basketball team in school’s history. Each team had one player earn All-American honors.
This year’s team is currently ranked 4th in the nation, which will be their seeding in the national tournament.
