CASA of the 11th Judicial Circuit will host its Annual March Madness Basketball Tournament on Apr. 7 at the Ronceverte Lion’s Club Gym (old Ronceverte High School).
We are accepting only ten teams who will play in the charity event, to ensure all abused and neglected children have a trained, caring and nurturing adult to be their voice in court, to provide hope and support while they are in foster care system. We are encouraging attorneys, law enforcement, child protective service workers, social services agencies, court programs, mental health providers, foster parents or whoever wants to form a team to help us reach our goals and support our mission. Last year team Agee won the championship, and this year will be returning to defend their title.
The ten teams registered will be accepted on first come first served basis (complete registration forms and fees), and are due by Mar. 19. Each team will need to consist of at least five individuals but no more than seven members with at least two women per team; each player must be 18 years of age or older; each player must complete the registration form and waiver; and each team must raise the minimum $200 registration fee (money collected or raised by team members, and it can exceed required amount). All ten teams will enter into a single elimination tournament bracket.
During each game audience members and players will be able to participate in a 50/50 drawing, a 3 point shootout during halftime, and will have access to the concession stand. All monies raised will go to support CASA of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit.
CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, trains volunteer advocates to speak on behalf of abused and neglected children in the court system. CASA was created to ensure the abuse and neglect these children suffered at home does not continue in the system. Judges appoint CASA volunteers to be a voice for these children in court, which results in the children being placed in safe homes where they can thrive. CASA volunteer advocates are ordinary people doing extraordinary things who donate three-ten hours a month to helping the children they are assigned.
