The Wrestling State Championships are in Huntington and we will have all 13 of our wrestlers there to compete.

As a team we will go as regional champions, however, individually each wrestler will compete to win their weight class. It’s exciting, fun, hard work, satisfying, intense, heart-breaking, important and pressure-packed. Just like life! In fact, wrestling is “a way of life!” This past week at practice we talked about the “Attitude of Gratitude.” We are very grateful for the opportunity to wrestle for Greenbrier East High School and represent our community with pride and class. We are grateful for our fans and ALL the people that support us with kindness and loyalty. As we go to the State Championships, let’s reflect on the success that we had this season. We are the Jason Eades Tournament Champions (32 teams), The Greenbrier Duals Champions (8 teams), AAA Region 3 Duals Champions, Greenbrier County Champions, Coal Country Challenge Champions, AAA Coalfield Conference Champions and Regional Champions. We are so proud of these wrestlers. I will give updates on college selections soon. We are lucky to have these wrestlers in our community. Be proud of them!

Trivia: What is the Greenbrier East High School record for most State Tournament place-winners in one season?

Upcoming events and highlights: State Championships in Huntington February 22-24. Our team leaders are Levi Hobbs (Most Wins-41) (Most Takedowns-85), Jacob Hefner (Most Pins-21). Also, Jacob Hefner and Levi Hobbs are 4x State Qualifiers. Joining Delton Webb, Davis Solak, Jasiel Kinder and Logan Evans. (That is good company)

E.G.M.S. update: It is amazing how many wrestlers who wrestle for EGMS go on to succeed at the high school level. We NEED this program to succeed!

Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club: The Wrestling Club broke every club record at the Regional Championships with nine wrestlers in the finals. They are now preparing for the Jr. State Tournament. We are so proud of this group.

See Coach Miluk or one of our current Wrestlers about our ‘Adopt a Wrestler’ program. It’s a Great way to support our team and follow the success of our Wrestlers.

Miluk humor: My friend keeps telling me that he’s a compulsive liar… but I don’t believe him! Ha!

Trivia answer: The record for the most state place-winners in one season is two wrestlers. (That is a record we will try to beat). Last year Logan Evans and Leslie Campbell both placed at the State Championships.

Greenbrier East Wrestler of the Week

Name: Leslie Campbell

Grade: Senior

G.P.A.: 3.49

Parents: Karneitra Adams

Record: 33-13 (20 pins)

Highlight: 6th in the State / WV National Team

Quote: “It’s not how good you are on your best day, but how good you are on your worst.”

Coach’s Comment:”I Love Leslie Campbell! He is one of the nicest and hardest working people I have ever met. His desire to please others is of the highest quality. Leslie is a success story and we are only beginning to write his book.”
