Motivating students to want to read is one of the goals of Read Aloud West Virginia, a 501(3)c nonprofit which began in earnest in 2007-08. Since then, 200 schools in 30 counties have volunteers going into classrooms to turn young people on to all that books can offer – growing imaginations, acquiring a knowledge of relevance, fluency, and expanded vocabularies. Suzanne Williams was the Read Aloud volunteer for Amber Martin’s 7th grade class (pictured) at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School last year. Everybody is a winner in Read Aloud WV, said Williams. “Volunteering for 30 minutes one day a week can be the best 30 minutes you may have that week. Volunteers are always welcome.” For more information, go to readaloudwestvirginia.org. or contact the Greenbrier County Library.
