The Maxwelton Ruritan Club welcomed three new members to the club in December and installed their officers for the new year.
Jane Scott, Ryan Nuckoles, and Thomas Vance were installed by Vice President Tom Vance. Each new member was presented with a Ruritan pin. Lower WV District Governor Roy Mullins installed the following club officers for next year: Lee Godbey, president; Bob Hefner, vice president; Mike Williams, treasurer; and Debbie Bowman, secretary. Gary Wallace will serve as the three year board member.
Members voted to increase our yearly donation to Penny Pitch, and to continue our support for Shop with a Cop. The members placed wreaths around the Maxwelton area for the holidays. Larry Bowman reminded all members of the Ruritan National Convention Jan. 18-20, in Charleston, SC, and encouraged all to attend.
The Maxwelton Ruritan Club was chartered in 1953. Most people recognize our ice cream concession stand at the WV State Fair where we volunteer every August. All proceeds from the ice cream sales go back into our local community. We donate to Penny Pitch, Red Cross, Davis Stuart, Appalachia Service Project, Family Refuge Center, 4-H Clubs, CYAC, and local Boy Scouts. We also give two scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Our club is responsible for road-clean up along 219 North with the Adopt A Highway program, and projects you know should be undertaken in our community but we have not thought of them.
The Maxwelton Ruritan club meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the Henning Church of God on Vago Road. The dinner meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. We would welcome the opportunity to meet you and tell you more about our club, and dinner is on us!
