New River Community and Technical College is offering a six-week Sign Language II class on Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the Greenbrier Valley Campus, Lewisburg. The class will start Jan. 11.
Students will build on an introduction to sign language and continue learning of ASL/finger spelling; introduction of ABC’s, numbers, basic signs, family signs, education signs, daily living signs and food signs. This class will introduce an understanding of the deaf culture to better equip community members with an understanding of sign language. During the class participants will learn 100+ ASL words and how to communicate with one another through basic sentences.
