On Saturday, Dec. 7, the City of Lewisburg hosted the annual Christmas Parade.
Over 30 participating organizations and individuals filed down Washington Street, celebrating the holiday season in humorous and inspirational ways.
Judges Mark Bowe of Mark Bowe Insurance in White Sulphur Springs, Dr. Coy Flowers of Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, and Kelli Martin of Carnegie Hall scrutinized the entries in six categories and determined a first and second place winner, as well as one honorable mention.
Eastern Greenbrier Middle School was awarded first place Best Band with Greenbrier East High School following with second place. In the Equestrian division, Makayla Nichols took first, and Darla Holzman 2nd.
As the only entry in the Fire Engine category, Lewisburg Fire Department cleaned house with first place. Of course, had there been another engine to compete, it would have been difficult to beat Santa Claus who closed the parade atop the Lewisburg fire engine.
In the antique car category, the Ripco delivery truck won first place, and Jerry Vance, driving his 1947 Plymouth, followed closely for second place.
Images of Dance, led by Shelley Neal, won first place in the Walker category, followed closely by Cub Scout Pack 122 for second. A crowd and judge favorite was Fritz’s Pharmacy’s Duck Dynasty inspired float which earned the company first place in the float category. Greenbrier Episcopal School’s float, filled to the brim with students, took second place. But, the judges just couldn’t rest with only two winners in the category. They insisted on an honorable mention for Greenbrier County Special Olympics whose float had been carefully decorated for the Christmas celebration.
The City of Lewisburg wishes all of the residents and visitors a happy holiday season and new year.
