If Santa is looking for a gift for Mrs. Santa, he needs to visit the Greenbrier Visitors’ Center in Lewisburg.

There he will find the most beautiful red jacket, created from cloth woven on a loom with the pattern cleverly directed by a computer program. In that same studio sits another loom, built circa 1940, threaded for a simple throw rug with scrap fabric creating a totally random pattern.

Using techniques very old and very new, members of the Fiber Arts Network have created shawls and Christmas stockings, hats and placemats, elegant dishtowels and adorable tiny felted creatures to hide under or on the Christmas tree.

These items, previewed at the Visitors’ Center, along with rugs, socks and other hand-crafted garments will be for sale at the Fiber Arts Network Holiday Sale at Lewisburg City Hall on First Friday, Dec. 1 from 4-9 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members will demonstrate spinning, weaving, felting and making socks on a knitting machine. Also for sale will be wool roving from local sheep, for felting, spinning and creating decorations such as wreaths.
