Rupert – William C. “Bill” Hayes, Jr. passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

Bill was born Jan. 19, 1948, in Ronceverte, the son of the late Nellie McClung Hayes and Curtis Hayes of Lewisburg.

He was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and Marshall University. Bill retired after 26 years as general manager of Greenbrier Public District #1. He was instrumental in providing sewer service to local communities. He was a member of Bascom United Methodist Church, a past member of Lewisburg Elks Lodge and the Rainelle Moose Lodge. In his retirement he enjoyed refinishing furniture, especially chair caning.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Nancy M. Hayes; sister, Elizabeth Bower and husband Jim; two nieces, Meredith Canterbury and Tracey Dare; great-nephews, Tyler Canterbury, Griffin and Spencer Dare; great-niece, Megan Canterbury; several cousins and friends. He also left behind his beloved Border Collie, Sadie Mae and two cats, Willie and Izzy.

A celebration of Bill’s life was held Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg where Rev. Jonathan Deardorff presided.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Greenbrier County Humane Society, 151 Holliday Road, Lewisburg, WV 24901 or Bascom United Methodist Church, 108 Church Street, Rupert, WV 25984.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
