Caldwell-Ruth Honaker Bennett, 97, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
She was born July 25, 1920, in Caldwell, to the late Percy E. and Elizabeth Masters Honaker.
Ruth served the Lord all her life, was 70 years as a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Caldwell, where she taught Sunday school for 35 years, and was the past president of women’s ministries. She began attending the Community Holiness Church in Frankford after the devastating 2016 flood, this making the third major flood she had survived. She was a friend to everyone she met. She was famous for her applesauce cakes, breads, and fried pies. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin D. Bennett who passed in September of 1997; sisters, Lucille Scott, Evelyn Baker, and Hazel Morgan; brothers, Ralph Honaker, Lawrence Honaker, Preston Honaker, and Leroy Honaker who had passed as an infant; and great-grandson, Hunter Allen Bennett.
Survivors include: son, Jerry Bennett and wife Margaret of Caldwell; grandchildren, Jimmy Bennett and wife Krissie, Jody Bennett and wife Shana, Justin Bennett and wife Sheila; greatgrandchildren, Dakota, Jarrett, Laken, Olivia, Owen, Keziah, and Madison; as well as numerus nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Community Holiness Church on Vago Road in Lewisburg, where Pastor Everette “Hat” Defibaugh and Rev. Greg Scott officiated. Burial followed in Adwell Cemetery in Ronceverte.
Visitation was before the service on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Community Holiness Church.
