“Witches and Ghosts and Superhero’s, Oh, My!” These are just a few of the many costumes you would have seen on Oct. 26 at Ronceverte Elementary School’s fourth Annual Spooktacular!
Children as well as adults were dressed up in unique and creative costumes. The halls were filled with children and teachers alike, dressed as ghost, goblins, and creatures of the night. There were over 300 students and their siblings in attendance, and a little over 400 people total. The children trick or treated from room to room filling their bags with goodies from 6 to 7 p.m.
The conception of Spooktacular was developed to facilitate literacy as well as to bring families and the community into our school. Each child who attended received a free book from The West Virginia Read Aloud. Book levels ranged from infant / pre-school to eighth grade.
“Overall, the Spooktacular Family Reading Night was a grand event with expectations for even more fun next year,” stated Mrs. Modrzakowski, coordinator and RES kindergarten teacher.
RES would like to thank the following for their time, support, and help that made Spooktacular such a success. There were many RES teachers and several volunteers from the community, including students from Greenbrier East High School that read spooky stories. Ten first year medical students from the WVSOM Pediatrics Club who painted faces, hosted musical chairs and danced in the Dance Hall Dance Party. Community In Schools provided sand art and Mrs. L. Weikle, the librarian, opened the Scholastic Book Fair to one and all. If you or your organization would like to participate in Spooktacular next year, please contact Mrs. B.
