The newly repainted Child and Youth Advocacy Center on Courtney Drive in Lewisburg.

The Child and Youth Advocacy Center (CYAC) has a new look. The agency recently underwent several major repairs to its facility in Lewisburg, including interior and exterior painting and construction of a new back porch. Contractors George Jordan of 21st Century Construction and John Paul Beaver of Beaver Building performed the work.

“This is really a dream come true, and we could not be happier with the end result,” said CYAC Executive Director Katherine Thompson. “As an accredited Child Advocacy Center, we strive to provide a space where children and families feel comfortable and safe. I believe that, with these improvements, we have definitely achieved that goal.”

The CYAC is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end child abuse by coordinating a multidisciplinary team approach to investigation, prosecution, treatment, and prevention. The CYAC provides forensic interviews, advocacy, and therapy to child victims of abuse and neglect.

The CYAC also works with local prosecutors, law enforcement, Child Protective Services workers, medical and mental health professionals, and other nonprofit victim service providers to coordinate child abuse investigations and ensure that no victims fall through the cracks. The CYAC is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance and has been serving the Greenbrier Valley for over 13 years. Last year, the CYAC served 205 children in Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas Counties.

To learn more about the CYAC, please contact Executive Director Katherine Thompson at 304-645-4668 or kat@cyacwv.org. The CYAC wishes to thank 21st Century Construction, Beaver Building, and the City of Lewisburg’s Historic Landmarks Commission for their assistance.
