Lewisburg-Julia Poage Knight Garnett died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017.
Born Apr. 20, 1928, at her grandfather’s home near Clover Lick, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harry Winters Knight and Woodsie Lee Poage Knight.
When she was a year old, the family moved to Lewisburg. Julia graduated from Lewisburg High School and Greenbrier College for Women. She received her B.S. degree from Concord College and pursued her Master’s degree at Marshall University. Julia was a dedicated teacher. She taught at Williamsburg High School, McComas High School, Bramwell High School, Frankford High School and Greenbrier East High School. Julia was an active 4-H’er all her life. She was a 4-H Club Leader in Mercer and Greenbrier counties and was a 4-H All Star. Julia was an active member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church. She belonged to Chapter F of the PEO Sisterhood.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband, John Garnett; and her beloved brother, Harry Moffett Knight.
She is survived by: son, John Edward Garnett; daughter, Ann Garnett Kudro and husband Michael Kudro; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Kudro Popky and husband Steven, Thomas Andrew Kudro and wife Genevieve, Chelsea Garnett Turner and husband Tommy, Oakley Belle Garnett and Evan Newell Garnett; and three great-grandsons, Grayson Michael Kudro, Clark Thomas Kudro and Talmadge Winfield Turner.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Afterward, she will be laid to rest in the family plot beside her husband of 62 years at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.
The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Greenbrier Historical Society.
