A number of residents are saying they felt a tremor while going about their day last Wednesday. A 3.2 magnitude earthquake occurred 8.7 miles northeast of Pearisburg, VA, at 1:33 p.m., which could be felt all the way in Greenbrier County.

The epicenter of the quake was just over the state line, in Monroe County, according to the US National Weather Service out of Blacksburg, VA. Several employees at the Greenbrier County Courthouse said they felt the building tremble, and others didn’t feel any movement. People from across the regions including Smoot, Peterstown, and Athens reported feeling the quake. Closer to the epicenter, residents said their houses shook, and that they heard “a loud boom,” or something sounding almost like an explosion during the earthquake, which only lasted several seconds.
