Lee Street Studios is proud to announce the grand opening of its Centre for the Arts, and a free concert with Thom Bresh in Lewisburg throughout the weekend of Sept. 29, starting with the Open House.
The school that many residents attended as an elementary, junior high, high school and even college student has finally come into its own again, continuing the theme of education. Now, Lee Street Studios will offer a place where people can gather to enjoy a variety of the cultural arts and submerge themselves in art, music, and dance (as well as many other events).
There are lots of plans for this remarkable facility, and as Michael Christie, the artist who had the foresight to see the potential of the historic old school building, would say, “I hated to see a place fade away that had so many memories for so many people, and was also just too great of an old building to be forgotten. And then I was thinking I wanted a long term studio and exhibition space and a sense of other artists working around me. I got really excited about bringing the old school back to life and it has just morphed into a really thrilling project. It is different than anything offered in Lewisburg and will, I believe, add to Lewisburg’s amazing community of art centers, theaters, and cultural events. I was lucky enough to join up with John Hirt, Bruce Schweizer and Bob Worley who could see the same vision, and it just took off!”
The Open House will be on Friday, Sept. 29, from 1-7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 1, from 12 noon-4 p.m. The event will offer the public a view of the new facility. Lee Street Studios will be exhibiting the works of local artist, some who have studios located on the premises. Some of the studios will be available for viewing of our artists in residence, and refreshments will be available.
Saturday night we are offering a free concert to celebrate the grand opening with Thom Bresh, a renowned singer/songwriter from Nashville, TN. They will also be offering complimentary light fare and beverages. A limited number of tickets for the Saturday musical event with Thom Bresh will be available at The Livery, The Front Porch, and Lee Street Studios. You can call 410-200-1562 for further information.
