Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) is excited to announce that the registration deadline for the Youth Education Program’s Summer Drama Camp ‘ACTions Speak Louder Than Words’ has been extended to July 21.

Drama camp is offered to children age 5-14 and runs July 24 – Aug. 6. While there are still spots available, space is limited.

Students in GVT’s summer drama camp experience intensive study in theatre arts. Campers age 5-14 spend two weeks exploring creative dramatics, acting for the camera, scene study, voice and movement, creative writing, storytelling and technical theatre. Camp culminates in a performance written, developed and produced by students.

Young children are not the only theatre enthusiasts that benefit from GVT’s Summer Drama Camp. Older students who have been committed to theatre for many years are given the opportunity to help foster love for the arts. Meg LaFollette is one such student. As a teaching assistant, she will gain a different perspective on performance and creation.

“Because I have been in the same position as the students for so many years, it will be really different and interesting to see what it’s like to be on the other side of the learning experience. I’m excited to see the young campers and how much they grow through the program,” LaFollette said.

Campers age 5-8 attend for half days from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at a cost of $285. Older campers spend whole days, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the theatre for $385. Need-based scholarships are available.

The program is presented with financial assistance from the United Way of Greenbrier Valley and the WV Division of Culture & History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the WV Commission on the Arts.
