Frankford Elementary recently held their 31st Annual Spelling Bee. Zach Ellis, a fifth grader at Frankford Elementary School, will be competing in the Greenbrier County Spelling Bee on Jan. 7, 2014, at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School.
The Frankford Bee was highly competitive. After intense spelling competition, Ellis earned the right to represent Frankford in the County contest, correctly spelling the word “guineas,” with Blaine Yates, also a fifth grader, as the runner-up.
Ellis is the son of Ben and Tabatha Ellis of Renick. Yates is the son of Scott and Lynn Yates of Frankford. Both Ellis and Yates are honor students at Frankford School.
Also representing their classes in the Frankford Bee were: Bridgette Altizer, Haley Ford, Abigail Herndon, Ian Morrison, Amie Shuck-Cooper, and Kylea Wykle, fourth grade: Hannah E. Brown, Saige Cook, Augusta Judy, and Caitlynne Price, fifth grade.
This was the thirty-first annual Frankford School Bee. Mrs. Sharon Altizer directed this year’s contest. Mrs. Dawn Huffman and Mrs. Ann Rapp formed the judges’ panel, while Mrs. Amber Workman served as the pronouncer.
Spelling teachers for participating students were Mrs. Tamara Merritt and Mr. Shawn Hill, fourth grade, and Ms. Ashley Bevins and Mrs. Amber Workman, fifth grade.
The spelling bee was opened by students Lauren Quick and Chris Scronce. Principal Bedford McClintic and Faculty Senate Chair Kim Gee presented awards to all competitors on behalf of the Frankford Education Foundation, Inc.
