The Raleigh Playhouse and Tamarack are set to present The Mountain Music Comedy Spectacular “FRACK!!”

Things are tough all over for Jim Cunningham. A single father who recently lost his job as a truck driver for Piney Fork Coal, Jim struggles to make ends meet while raising his two teenage kids. As Jim begins to believe he has reached the end of his rope, he is visited by a peculiar representative from a gas fracturing company known as Grendel Corp.

Their offer to Jim is simple: All of his money problems can go away — with one seemingly simple stipulation: only they can decide where on his property to put the gas well.

“FRACK!!” is directed by Robby Moore, written by J.C. Lacek, and features Zachary Bolen, Ashley Traybor, Chris Cohenour, Tiffany Jenkins, Korey Tedder, Jamie Smith, Sarah Dodson-Osborne, and Gerald Hayden, with original Music by J. Scarborough and music direction by Jason Lockart. Additional composition (as well as live performance) is by members of Kid In The Background, Inc., Long Point String Band, and The Kind Thieves.

“FRACK!!” is a full-length musical comedy play featuring eight original songs.

This is the second production from Lacek. His first, “Abomination on Bolt Mountain,” premiered at The Raleigh Playhouse in June of 2016, and was also featured in San Francisco’s Greenhouse Theatre Festival. In addition to playwriting, Lacek also created and writes the forthcoming Jazz Legend series on Scout Comics. Other comic writing credits include Lacek’s own Appalachian-themed, Whiskey Tango Comics, with such titles as “Dogs Days of Raleigh Bottom” and “Andy Griffith Must Die.”

Lacek currently works as resident playwright at The Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre.

“FRACK!!” is featured as part of the Tamarack’s Appalachian Music Festival and will premier June 9 at Tamarack in Beckley. Doors open at at 7:15 p.m., and the show begins at 8.

On June 15-24, the show will be staged at The Raleigh Playhouse in Beckley. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; show begins at 7:15. On Sunday, June 18, the matinee performance’s doors open at 1:30 p.m., show is at 2.

Admission to both venues is $18 in advance; $20 at the door.

“FRACK!!” contains strong language/adult content, and is intended for mature viewers.
