An anonymous threat against Eastern Greenbrier Middle School last week was found to be groundless.
According to Greenbrier County Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Bryant, an anonymous post on Facebook indicated a threat against the school on Friday, May 12.
‘We took it very seriously,” said Bryant, who said that law enforcement from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police were called to investigate the threat.
“Fortunately, it was unfounded,” said Bryant.
When students arrived to school Friday morning, they were greeted by a cadre of police officers, board of education staff and Bryant himself, as the investigation continued.
Bryant said that despite the threat, and its spread on social media, school buses dropping off students appeared to be full.
“Nothing has been communicated to me about an attendance impact,” he said, stating that the students he greeted seemed thankful to see the law enforcement presence at school that morning.
“We always take threats like this very seriously,” said Bryant, noting that EGMS Principal Preston Modlin responded quickly to the rumor, alerting faculty, staff and law enforcement about the threat.
Bryant said that EGMS parents were informed of the investigation via the Greenbrier County Schools text message alert system.
