Smoot-Kerry Dean Skaggs Workman, 40, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.
Kerry was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Dean Skaggs; maternal grandparents, Owen and Julia Neff; and paternal grandparents, Herbert and Ruby Skaggs.
Kerry was born Nov. 18, 1976, in Summersville to Lloyd Dean and Jewell Neff Skaggs of Poe. Kerry was a 1995 graduate of Nicholas County High School. As a United Methodist pastor. Kerry served churches in Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Nicholas counties. Kerry obtained an Associate’s Degree from New River Community and Technical College and was near completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She loved gardening, music and literature. Kerry was friendly to everyone she knew, loved the elderly, did not ever meet a stranger and was willing to help those in need.
Kerry is survived by her mother, Jewell; children, Deana, Josh and Ressa, all at home; sister, Tina (Greg) Lucas of Gilboa; brothers, James (Heidi) Skaggs of Poe and Zack (Miranda) Skaggs of Corpus Christi, TX, nephews and nieces, Jesse, Madi, Sydney (Travis), Jakob, Nathaniel, McKenzie, Aubrey, and Jeremiah; former husband and loving father of her children, Lance Workman; special uncle and aunt, Chris and Blondie Neff; cousin and special friend, Jeff Neff; lifelong best friend, Robin Ellison; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 6, at 12 noon at Bethel United Methodist Church at Poe with the Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the White Funeral Home in Summersville.
